Out of stock

Clethra alnifolia ‘Hummingbird’

Soil: Slightly Acidic, Sandy, Well-drained
Moisture: Average to Wet
Light: Full to Part Sun (prefers part sun)
Plant Height: 3 to 4 feet
Plant Width: 3 to 5 feet
Pests: None
Landscape Value: Excellent for mixed borders, woodland gardens, and along stream and pond edges. Good for narrow beds, small gardens, foundation plantings, and near patios.

Easy-to-grow, compact shrub with glossy, dark green leaves that turn golden-yellow in the fall. Upright, terminal clusters of sweet-smelling white flowers bloom in mid-to-late summer, giving way to dry, dark brown seed capsules that resemble peppercorns and persist into winter. Flowers attract butterflies, bees and hummingbirds. Spreads by root suckers to form colonies. Remove suckers unless naturalizing. Requires little care as it keeps its tight, dense shape. If desired, light pruning can be done in early spring. Tolerates clay soil, salt spray, erosion, and full shade.
