Landscape Value: Excellent for mixed borders and woodland gardens. Good for narrow beds, small gardens and foundation plantings. Good choice for gardens in coastal areas due to tolerance of salt spray.
Low-growing cultivar of Summersweet. Easy-to-grow, compact shrub with glossy, dark green leaves that turn yellow in the fall. Upright, terminal clusters of sweet-smelling white flowers bloom in mid-summer, giving way to dry, dark brown seed capsules that resemble peppercorns and persist into winter. Flowers attract butterflies and bees. Spreads by root suckers to form colonies. Suckers can be removed if not naturalizing. Requires little care as it keeps its tight, dense shape. If desired, light pruning can be done in late winter/early spring. Tolerates clay soil, wet soil, salt spray, erosion, and full shade.
