Easy-to-grow, deciduous, upright shrub that spreads by suckers to form colonies.  Toothed leaves are densely hairy beneath and turn golden-yellow in the fall.  Long-blooming, pyramidal clusters of pink to rose-purple flowers bloom from top to bottom in mid-summer and early autumn.  Remove faded flower clusters to encourage additional blooms.  Flowers on new wood so prune in late winter or early spring if needed.  Susceptible to leaf spot and powdery mildew.  Tolerates light shade.  Attracts butterflies, native small bees, and flies.
