Shrubby evergreen perennial with velvety, aromatic, grey-green leaves that are used fresh or dried in cooking, medicinal teas, and potpourris.  Elongated spikes of lavender-blue flowers appear in late spring.  To encourage new growth, prune back plants in early spring every year, cutting out the oldest growth.  To prevent mildew, thin plants regularly to promote good air circulation.  Susceptible to powdery mildew if grown in crowded garden areas with poor air circulation.  Tolerates drought.  Attracts butterflies, bees and hummingbirds.
