Landscape Value:  Great grown at the edge of a pond or stream and in rain gardens.  Good for massing to control erosion on shorelines, swales, and drainage ditches.  Great for freshwater sites saturated during winter months and drier during the growing season.

Clump-forming perennial with unbranched, semi-evergreen cylindrical stems and grass-like leaves that turn brown with frost.  Clusters of tiny green-brown flowers, subtended by leaf-like bracts, occur at or near stem tips.  Tolerates flooding, drought, heavy clay, gravelly soil, compacted soil, and moderate salt.
