An erect perennial with pale green leaves and nodding, star-shaped, yellow flowers arising from the axils of opposite leaves. Flower petals have abruptly pointed tips and often bear a red spot at the base. Leaf stalks are covered with hairs giving the plant a fringed appearance. Flowers bloom mid-summer to early autumn and produce a floral oil instead of nectar to attract pollinators. Tolerates seasonal flooding. Attracts large numbers of native bees, including a specialist bee whose survival depends on this host plant.
