Landscape Value: Excellent ground cover for shady areas and woodland gardens. Good for border fronts, wetland edges, and naturalized areas.
Easy-to-grow, clump-forming perennial with semi-glossy, maple-shaped leaves that rise from the base of the plant. Foliage turns red and shades of bronze in the fall. Airy, terminal clusters of tiny, star-shaped, white flowers appear in spring on wiry stems that rise well above the foliage, and bloom for about 6 weeks. Flowers have long, fine-textured stamens, giving a frothy appearance, hence the common name. Plants spread rapidly by stolons (horizontal stems) that creep along the ground to form dense, sizeable colonies when given the space. Prefers moist soils; soils should not be allowed to dry out. Wet soils, especially in winter, can be fatal. Attracts bees.
