Great color contrast in the garden! Clump-forming perennial with rigid purple stems, maroon leaves, and 2 to 3 foot spikes of profuse white, tubular flowers that bloom mid-spring to early summer. Susceptible to root rot if grown in poorly-drained soil. Tolerates heat, drought, clay soil and dry soil. Songbirds eat ripe seeds from flower stems in fall and winter. Attracts hummingbirds, butterflies, moths and native bees.
