Plymouth schools slash energy use, up efficiency

PLYMOUTH — The school district has managed to reduce energy use in its buildings by nearly 50 percent in the past two years, school officials learned this week.
Starting in 2009-10, the district hired Energy Education, a Texas-based energy conservation company, and brought local engineer Martin Sandshaw on board as a part-time energy education specialist.
This past August, the district used 48 percent less energy in the schools and offices than it did in August 2008, the base year before the energy reduction efforts began, according to James Galletly, Energy Education’s vice president of marketing who provided a presentation for the Board of Education Wednesday.
