Brookfield Energy Commission
(BEC)
Purpose
The purpose of The Brookfield Energy Commission (BEC) is to promote resource conservation, energy efficiency, create initiatives for use of renewable energy and conservation measures within all municipal buildings as well as encouraging homes and local businesses to explore similar means. The commission will provide education to the community on energy, environmental and related topics, as well as seek out grants and funding availability for energy conservation. In addition, the Commission will serve in an advisory and supportive role to the Board of Selectmen. In this advisory role BEC shall provide quarterly reports covering short and long term recommendations for action by the BOS and other appropriate officials of the Town. BEC shall investigate possible collaborative relationships with other like minded organizations, and communities.
Goals and Objectives
While the Commission should be charged with reevaluating its goals and objectives every two years, based on the immediate needs of the community and the progress made, some guidelines will include:
· Educating the public on conservation, energy savings, resources and programs available for rebates.
- Reducing energy consumption in town assets, and planning for future energy conservation and efficiency, thereby leading to reducing town expenses.
- Research resources and grants available to municipalities from Federal, state, regional and private entities.
- Work with other communities, educational institutions, and other energy organizations
- Investigate programs and opportunities to institute energy savings which would benefit residents and municipal organizations.

The commission meets at 6:00 on the first and third Thursday of every month at town hall. This schedule may occasionally fluctuate. This site will be updated as the BEC progresses and takes on new tasks and projects in the community.
The Brookfield Energy Ad-hoc Committee meets the first and third Thursdays of the month at 5:30pm in the Town Hall.
Establishment of the Committee:
BROOKFIELD ENERGY AD-HOC COMMITTEE: At conclusion of discussion, Howard Lasser made motion to establish the Brookfield Energy Ad-Hoc Committee, seconded by Steve O’Reilly. Motion carried unanimously.
Howard Lasser made motion to appoint the following five member committee (three year term), seconded by Steve O’Reilly. Motion carried unanimously.
