A Sampling of
Workshops from 2003-2005

Blissville Pond Workshop: This
workshop was held at the Lisbon Community Center. Participants learned about
invasive plants and methods for their control.
Wetlands Delineation Workshop: This workshop was held at the Brooklyn Service Center. Many of the participants
were town commissioner volunteers. In cooperation with NRCS we showed them when
and how a wetland determination is made.

Forestry Professionals
Workshop: This workshop was held on the District land in
Brooklyn. Forestry professionals learned the latest about legal boundary issues
and received credits for orienteering in the field.

U.N. Children's
Workshop: In July of 2004 this
workshop was held on the the outflow of Miller Pond in Quaker Hill. About 25
kids from all over the world, and their chaperones, were given an afternoon
lesson in evaluating water quality by the District.

Best
Forest
Management Workshop: This
workshop was held on the District's Stewardship Forest Land. Participants were
given practical instructions by professional foresters in the art and practice
of sustainable forest management. 
Annual Thames River Basin Partnership Floating
Workshop: This is one of our most popular workshops that we
co-sponsor. It includes classroom sessions followed by Project Oceanology
shipboard excursions on and near the Thames River. Each year's workshop centers
on a different theme.

Town Commissioner Training: These workshops
are conducted at the request of municipal land use commissions. Requests center
on erosion and sediment control issues, riparian buffers, invasive plant
control, and other environmental concerns.

Real Estate Professionals and Developers Workshops:
These workshops cater to professionals seeking accreditation for their license
renewal. Subjects include septic systems, well-water issues, soils and wetlands
with an emphasis on conservation of natural resources.
Klemens
Planning for Nature (Vernal Pool) Workshops: These workshops were
held throughout the state by the Districts in order to educate commissioners and
citizens about the science and the importance of our unique and valuable vernal
pools.
Erosion
and Sediment Control Workshops: These workshops were held throughout
the state by the Districts in order to educate commissioners and professional
staff on the updated Connecticut Manual for E&S Guidelines.
